Anyone who has experienced anything but the most superficial learning of the Enneagram will understand just how powerful a system it is for learning firstly about self and then learning about others. I use the word 'learning' deliberately as 'understanding' or 'knowing' one’s self takes much more practice!
My first exposure to the Enneagram occurred in my work environment in 2001 thanks to Enneagram teacher and ambassador Paul Cowan. Since then, I have seen it used in both work and non-work environments and have embarked on becoming a teacher, through the narrative tradition, with the help of many others, but mostly my Enneagram Coach, Rosemary Cowan. The Enneagram Professional Teachers Programme (EPTP) was revelatory to me and my fellow attendees. I cannot here begin to do justice to describing what I mean by revelatory, except to recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more and perhaps share with others the benefits that the Enneagram through the Narrative Tradition can provide.
My songs have been inspired by my work with EPTP. Indeed writing songs is a new art form for me, albeit I have been messing about with guitars for years without ever really completing anything (a trait of my type, as I now understand!).
Each of the songs is my own interpretation of the respective type and focuses upon only a tiny aspect of the complicated nature of Enneagram characteristics. I would like to think that some people might enjoy some of their messages and maybe even add their comments to this site.
So, as a Seven type (‘Epicure’), the Enneagram has given me a little more variety in my life, but at least I now know why that might not be the most important reason for undertaking my Ennea Album project!
It is for the above reasons that the album is dedicated to all my EPTP friends and why any sales provide a donation to the ‘Friends’ fund to enable less privileged people around the world to experience Enneagram teaching. I also want to thank Stewart Redpath and Paul & Rosemary Cowan for their advice.
I have also allowed myself a personal indulgence of contributing too to my personal favourite U.K. charity, 'Help the Hospices'.
Thank you for reading this and please let me know what your thoughts are about my lyrics and about my songs too if you like.
